What are the Best Embroidery Kits for Beginners?

The best embroidery kits for beginners are our floral kits, such as the Summer Daydream Embroidery Kit or the Meadow Embroidery Kit - Coral & Mint. These and similar kits are available on our website and in-store and are ideal for beginners, as they teach many foundational embroidery stitches and skills.

What Does an Embroidery Kit Include? 

Most of our kits include the supplies needed to complete your project. Here’s what each type of kit generally contains:

  • Beginner kits: Cotton fabric with a pre-printed design, a 6-inch embroidery hoop, full skeins of embroidery floss, an embroidery needle, online stitch tutorials, and a stitch guide that includes tips and tricks for an easy start.
  • Intermediate and advanced kits:  An embroidery hoop, cotton fabrics, a transfer pattern, full skeins of embroidery floss, an embroidery needle, beads, backing materials, and full color printed instructions. 
  • Peel stick and stitch kits: 6 or 11-13 single-use and water-soluble peel, stick, and stitch designs, depending on the kit you choose. 
  • Stitch samplers: A screen-printed pattern on cotton, an assortment of embroidery floss, a No. 9 embroidery needle, and a link to a downloadable online guide.
  • Doll embroidery kits: A screen-printed pattern on cotton, printed backing fabric, a No. 9 needle, a range of DMC embroidery floss, stuffing, and step-by-step instructions. 
  • Mending kits: A design printed on a water-soluble stabilizer for easy placement plus clear instructions. 

 

Note that not every kit includes an embroidery hoop or scissors. It's recommended to have an embroidery hoop on hand, along with a pair of scissors for cutting the floss to the desired length for each project.

What is Mending With Embroidery?

Mending is when a water-soluble adhesive template is used to transfer an embroidery pattern onto fabric to cover stains, repair holes, or add decoration, creating visible mending. This art turns damage to unique designs. We offer mending templates in floral, square, geometric, and many other styles!
