This cross stitch pattern from Rittenhouse Needlepoint features the distinctive Philly pretzel. Philly's unique pretzel is wider, doughier, and softer than the standard soft pretzel, and has a unique elongated shape. It is baked in rows of several pretzels baked together that pull apart when finished. It is believed to have been developed in the 1920s when the already popular standard soft pretzel was updated for bulk baking. Pretzels remain as important to Philadelphians as bagels are to New Yorkers. Philadelphians are said to eat twelve times the national average of pretzels annually!
We recommend DMC and Gentle Art floss. Consider adding beads for the salt!
